Common English mistakes during KET speaking

KET Speaking Practice:

Common Mistakes:

1. Saying statements instead of questions.
ex: We can see the movie? - That is a statement. Not a question.
To make it a question, you switch the subject and the question word.
ex: Can WE see the movie?

2. Answering the wrong question:
You have to listen very carefully to what the person is asking you, focus on the question word they use.
-If you hear where, they are probably talking about location- look for the location information on your side.
-If you hear who, they are talking about people- look for information about people, ages on your side.
-If you hear when, they are talking about a time. Look for days and times on your side.
-If you hear what- they are talking about the subject of whatever it is you are talking about. A lot of times its the name of the movie/game, or asking what it is.
-You can always ask them to repeat

3. Forgetting question words- forming questions incorrectly.
ex: instead of saying correctly: what is the name of the movie? many people would say, is the name of the movie?
Always remember question word, it should be on the piece of paper you have.
If you have what/name? Remember to say: What is the name of the _____ (subject of your paper)?
Always include the two words given on your piece of paper, but make sure to correctly word the sentence.
ex: if you have where/see? Don’t say, where see?? say, where can I see it?
